Scientific Library

Improving the quality of service and satisfaction of our users is the main guideline of the work of the Scientific Library of JSC “ATU”. The implementation of the university’s educational programs is ensured by free access of students to library collections, computer technologies, information databases, including international sources hosted in the EBS.

The ATU Scientific Library (NB ATU) has a total area of 2168.9 sq.m., 2 subscriptions, 4 branch reading rooms, (+ reading rooms in dormitories) 2 electronic resource centers with a total number of seats – 390. The total number of readers is 8,215, including full-time students – 6,555, distance learning -359, undergraduates – 300, doctoral students – 89, teaching staff – 640, ATU employees – 251, from other universities – 21 users. Every year, on average, the library registers 700,000 visits, (including on the “Library in touch” chat on the Telegram channel), issues up to 500,000 copies of books and periodicals.

Today, the library’s fund has about 940,000 copies, including educational and scientific publications, databases of university teachers’ works, reference and fiction, periodicals, including: in Kazakh – 456,540 copies. (49 % of the total fund), in Russian – 450,870 copies (48% of the total fund), in English – 29,000 copies. (3% of the total fund) intended to meet the needs of the educational process, academic education and scientific research.

The fund of periodicals – 59,000 units of storage (400 titles), is allocated annually for subscription of an average of 7-8 million tenge (Agency Eurasia Press LLP) for scientific journals on the profile of the university.

Due to the close connection of the library with the departments of the university, where a subject librarian is attached to the subject area, “Days of the department in the scientific library” are held, a Map of the availability of educational literature is jointly compiled and applications and purchases of necessary literature for the educational process are studied with students (“Ask the librarian”), which led to an improvement in the quality of acquired information resources. About 50 million tenge is allocated annually from the budget of JSC “ATU” only for educational literature. The main sources of acquisition are bookselling organizations, domestic publishing houses – Logobuk LLP, Interpress LLP, Foliant LLP, Almanac LLP, Lantar Trade LLP, Epigraph LLP, external publishing houses Yurayt, Lan, Academy, INFRA-M, Profession, Dashkov and K, local bookstores: Book City, Akademkniga LLP, Corporation LLP Atamura”, LLP “Book world of the family”, “Music lover”, online store “Flip.kz ” and others. From 2017 to 2020, the project “New humanitarian knowledge of 100 new textbooks in the Kazakh language” (100 new textbooks in the Kazakh language) was created and implemented in our country within the framework of the Rukhani Zhangyru program. NB ATU received all 110 titles of books.

NB ATU Electronic Library (ATU Scientific Library) as a means of accumulation and dissemination of information and methodological resources of the university, the automated MARK-SQL system (NGO “Inform-system”, Moscow) is used, which ensures the implementation of full technological cycles. The accessibility of students and teaching staff to Kazakhstan, international, interuniversity educational library platforms has been ensured, about 10 million tenge is allocated annually for the acquisition of access to remote electronic resources (EBS). This is an annual subscription to the Republican Interuniversity electronic Library “RMEB”, JSC “RNTB”, RSE on PCV “Gylym Ordasy”, EBS “ZNANIUM.COM ” (Moscow), EBS “Lan” (St. Petersburg), EBS “IPRbooks” (Saratov), EBS EBSCOhost (USA), ID “GREBENNICON” (Moscow), LLP “Smartinfo”, see Contracts with EBS.
