Scientific and Academic Potential of the Department of Information Systems

The Department of Information Systems conducts research under three initiative-based research topics, two of which are registered with the National Center for Science and Technology Evaluation of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

1. Comprehensive Protection of Electronic Document Management Systems. Research supervisor: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor B.A. Kazangapova. Research team: Lecturer A.Zh. Moldakalykova and Senior Lecturer A.T. Toleusheva.
2. Development of Intelligent Information and Telecommunication Systems for Infrastructure. Research supervisor: K.O. Togzhanova. Research team: Associate Professor, PhD G.B. Kashaganova; Senior Lecturer, Master's degree holder V.Zh. Kerimbayeva; Senior Lecturer, Master's degree holder R.B. Aitbayeva; and Senior Lecturer, Master's degree holder A.B. Imansakipova.
3. Study of a Fiber-Optic Sensor for Detecting Virus Concentrations in Buildings. Research supervisor: K.O. Togzhanova. Research team: Associate Professor, PhD G.B. Kashaganova.

The academic staff of the Department actively participate in organizing and conducting events at the local and national levels. At these events, the academic staff present their scientific developments and research findings.

During the 2025–2026 academic year, the academic staff of the Department of Information Systems published a total of 125 scientific and methodological works, including:

• 3 teaching manuals;
• 34 articles, including 28 articles in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 1 article in other publications, and 5 articles in publications indexed in Scopus;
• 60 conference papers, including 8 papers presented at international conferences held in the Republic of Kazakhstan, 12 papers presented at national conferences, and 40 papers presented at international conferences abroad;
• 28 copyright certificates.

Of these publications, 30 were co-authored by students and academic staff.

Young researchers of the Department published 18 scientific works, including 3 articles in publications recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 15 papers presented at international conferences abroad.

On February 26, 2026, the Faculty of Information Technologies organized the annual competition for the research projects of undergraduate and master's students of higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Students of the Department of Information Systems submitted the following projects to the first stage of the Student Research Competition among higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

1. “Development of a Web Application for Teaching the Academic Course on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for Students in Inclusive Education.”

Author: Bekasyl Eldosuly Serikbayev, a fourth-year student enrolled in the 6B06101 – Information Systems educational program.

Research supervisor: PhD, Associate Professor Aktoty Aliyevna Shaikulova.

2. “Development of the SmartATU Educational Process Management System: Creating a Mobile Application to Support Students throughout the Learning Process.”

Author: Kazibek Kuroloyuly Alimov, a fourth-year student enrolled in the 6B06101 – Information Systems educational program.

Research supervisor: Rakhatai Bekbergenkyzy Aitbayeva, Master of Technical Sciences.

3. “Development of an Artificial Intelligence-Based Vehicle License Plate Recognition System.”

Authors: Munira Kerimbekkyzy and Nyshangul Nurgalikyzy Kaldybek, fourth-year students enrolled in the 6B06101 – Information Systems educational program.

Research supervisor: Kaiyrkhan Mukapil, Master of Technical Sciences.

4. “Development of a Two-Factor Authentication System.”

Author: Zhandos Maratuly Nuran, a fourth-year student enrolled in the 6B06101 – Information Systems educational program.

Research supervisor: Kulzhan Ondirisqyzy Togzhanova, Associate Professor.

Following the first stage of the competition, the evaluation committee recommended all four research projects for participation in the second stage of the 2025–2026 National Student Research Competition.

According to the results of the 2025–2026 National Student Research Competition, Zhandos Maratuly Nuran, a student enrolled in the 6B06101 – Information Systems educational program, won second place and was awarded a second-degree diploma by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Department of Information Systems aims to develop and widely implement information technologies in education, as well as integrate textbooks and teaching materials into the educational process.

The Department plans to increase the number of publications in journals indexed in Scopus and Clarivate Analytics databases, as well as in journals included in the list of publications recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Students enrolled in the 6B06101 – Information Systems and 6B06104 – Artificial Intelligence Technologies bachelor's degree programs were awarded diplomas and certificates based on the results of the Republican Interuniversity Subject Olympiad.
