The history of the "Textile Production Technology" department began in 1987. Established within the General Engineering Faculty of the Zhambyl Technological Institute of Light and Food Industry, it has been a cornerstone for training highly qualified specialists for the industry since its inception.

The first head and visionary of the department was Sergey Vladimirovich Khromtsov, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Professor, who led the unit from its founding until 2000. Under his leadership, the fundamental educational framework was established, and key research directions were developed.
