Almaty Technological University Enters the Top 4 Universities of Kazakhstan in the IAAR Ranking for the First Time
Almaty Technological University (ATU) has achieved a new historic milestone in the Independent Ranking of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 2026 conducted by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR).
According to the results of the General TOP-20 Ranking of Universities of Kazakhstan, ATU moved up from 5th to 4th place for the first time, improving its position compared to previous years and reinforcing its status as one of the country's leading universities.
This significant advancement in the national ranking is the result of the university’s consistent efforts to enhance the quality of education, strengthen research activities, expand international cooperation, and foster stronger partnerships with employers.
ATU’s high ranking is further confirmed by the results of the ranking of Groups of Educational Programs (GEPs). In 2026, 43 groups of educational programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels participated in the IAAR ranking. Among them:
- 23 groups of educational programs ranked 1st in Kazakhstan;
- 39 groups of educational programs were included in the national Top 3;
- 90.7% of the university’s groups of educational programs were recognized among the national leaders.
Particularly outstanding results were achieved at the postgraduate level.
All 16 groups of educational programs at the master's level entered the Top 3, with 12 of them taking 1st place.
All 9 groups of educational programs at the doctoral level entered the Top 3, including 6 groups that became national leaders in their respective fields.
At the bachelor's level, 14 out of 18 groups of educational programs entered the Top 3, while 5 groups achieved 1st place in their fields.
These results demonstrate the high quality of specialist training, strong demand for ATU graduates in the labor market, and the competitiveness of the university’s academic fields at the national level.
The highest achievements were recorded in the areas of food production, textile and light industry, chemical engineering, mechanics and metalworking, standardization and metrology, restaurant and hotel management, as well as business, management, tourism, and information technologies.
ATU’s advancement to 4th place in the General Ranking of Universities of Kazakhstan, together with the outstanding performance of its groups of educational programs, confirms national recognition of the university’s educational quality, the strong employability of its graduates, and the effectiveness of its development strategy.
