The department's founder and first head was Abdrakhman Bobeevich Bobeev, PhD in Engineering and Associate Professor.

In subsequent years, the department was headed by leading scientists of the republic in the field of mechanization and engineering:
Zh.M. Istaev, D.S. Izbasarov, K.R. Repp, A.B. Bekbaev, A.B. Ospanov, K.K. Kuzembaev, B.A. Rskeldiev, A.A. Surashov, S.S. Dzhingilbaev, M.Zh. Erkebaev, S.S. Usupov, and E.D. Shambulov.

Since September 2025, the department has been headed by Assistant Professor, PhD Dr. Asel Khalmakhanbetovna Alimkeshova, a recipient of the Bolashak International Scholarship. She completed a research internship under the "500 Scientists" program in the UK. She holds a first-class diploma and the "Best Young Scientist - 2020" medal among scientific and educational institutions of the CIS. In 2018, she completed an internship at the Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies (Ukraine).
