Department of «Information Systems»

The "Information Systems" Department is considered one of the oldest and, at the same time, one of the youngest departments in the faculty. 

Although its current name was officially adopted in 2012, the department’s academic history and scientific tradition date back to 1989. Its original name was "Automation and Computing Technology" as part of the Almaty branch of the Zhambyl Institute of Light Industry. The first head of the department was Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, A.B. Bekbayev.

In 1996, the department was renamed "Informatics and Applied Mathematics" at the Almaty Technological Institute. Since 1999, the department operated under the Joint Stock Company of ATU, headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, K.B. Kashibayev. Over the years, it was led by other prominent scholars such as Candidates of Technical Sciences, M.A. Vinnitskaya and S.M. Makhmutov.

In 2002, the department was renamed "Automation and Informatics" and was led by B.D. Dauletbakov, followed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, B.K. Sinchev. 

In 2003, it returned to the name "Informatics and Applied Mathematics", in 2004 became "Information Systems", and in 2010 – "Informatics and Information Systems".

Since 2012, it was named "Information Technologies".

From 2012 to 2016, the department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, N.S. Zaurbekov. From November 2019 to June 2024, the department was led by Associate Professor, PhD  F.U. Malikova.

Since 2022, the department has been operating under its current name — "Information Systems". 

Currently, since September 2024, the department is headed by Associate Professor, PhD, K.O. Togzhanova.
