The department “Food technology” was created in 1986 and is a specialized department of the Almaty Technological University.
Teaching staff of the department are leading scientists and specialists with extensive scientific, pedagogical and practical experience, trained at the leading enterprises of the food and processing industries of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in the countries of near and far abroad. Leading teachers of natural sciences are involved in teaching students, undergraduates and doctoral students.
The department has 33 full-time teachers: 6 doctors of sciences, 12 candidates of sciences, 3 PhDs, 5 masters, of which
- 2 holders of the badge “For Merit in the Development of Science” (Alimardanova M.K., Uzakov Ya.M.);
- 3 holders of the badge “Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (Rskeldiev B.A., Baibolova L.K., Tayeva A.M.);
- 9 holders of the grant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “The best teacher of the university” (Alimardanova M.K., Dikhanbaeva F.T., Tayeva A.M., Abzhanova Sh.A., Baibolova L.K., Uzakov Ya.M., Kenenbay Sh .Y., Matibaeva A.I., Dzhetpisbaeva B.Sh.);
- 4 holders of the state scholarship of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Young talented scientist” (Baybolova L.K., Tayeva A.M., Mukhtarkhanova R.B., Kuzembaeva G.K.)
The university teachers great attention to the development of the professional level of the teaching staff.
The teaching staff of the department annually undergo advanced training courses and scientific internships at partner universities and research institutes of far and near abroad, industrial internships at leading food enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participate in scientific and methodological seminars and conferences, exhibitions and other events.
Teachers study under the doctoral educational program “Food Technology” and successfully defend doctoral dissertations.
The department trains personnel on the 3-level system “Bachelor – Master – Doctorate” in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Kazakhstan, taking into account the principles of the Bologna process and standards for accreditation of engineering programs within the framework of the EUR-ACE project (European Accredited Engineer – European accredited engineer).

In 2012, the bachelor’s degree program “food technology” was Internationally accredited, and in 2017 it was re-accredited by the ASIIN Agency (Germany) with the right to award the “Euro-engineer” badge (EUR-ACE®).
In 2017, the master’s and doctoral degree programs “food Technology” were Internationally accredited by the ASIIN Agency (Germany).
In the ratings of National agencies (“Independent Kazakhstan Agency for quality assurance in education” and “National Agency for accreditation and rating”), bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs “food technology” annually take the first places.
According to the results of the rating, among the departments of ATU, the department “Food Technology” occupies a leading position.
Scientists of the Department successfully combine the training of specialists in food technology with scientific research and training of scientific and pedagogical personnel.
