The Department of Economics and Management as a structural subdivision of Almaty Technological University has been functioning since the beginning of 1976.
The main purpose of the Department’s activities is to provide professional training of highly qualified specialists for the real sector of the economy, state authorities; formation of basic competencies, knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of Economics, Management, State and local administration.
The Department of Economics and management is staffed by highly qualified personnel with extensive pedagogical experience and work experience. The department has a highly professional, creative, harmonious teaching staff that coordinates educational and research activities.
Currently, the department is headed by PhD, associate professor Sakhanova Gaukhar Bakhytovna.
Until 2021, the department was headed by Professor Gulnar Karimovna Zholdasbayeva, who is the owner of the title “Best university teacher of 2017”.
Professor of the Department Zholdasbayeva G. K. is a member of the Council of the UMS of higher and postgraduate education of the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for groups of specialties “Social Sciences, Economics and business” in JSC Narkhoz University.
To train highly professional specialists in educational programs of economics, state and local administration, management, worked as a Doctor of Economics, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vice-Rector for Educational and Methodological Work and International Relations of ATU, supervised the work of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Doctor of Economics, Professor L. F. Sukhova; Doctor of Economics, Professor P. P. Shevchik; Doctor of Economics, Professor A. B. Moldashev; Doctor of Economics, Professor A. N. Naribayev, Doctor of Economics, Professor S. S. Satybaldin; Doctor of Economics, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Candidate of Economics, Professor Atu Kudaibergenov Zh. d.; Candidate of Economics, Professor of atu Tulegenov B. T., Candidate of Economics, Professor of atu Zhaksybergenov A. G., etc.
Since its foundation, the department has trained more than 5,000 specialists and scientific personnel, including more than 500 over the past 5 years. Graduates of the Department of EIM work in various sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan: the real sector of the economy, the financial and banking system, the civil service, universities, leading enterprises of the light and food industry. We can note the following graduates of the department who achieved career growth: former minister of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Kapparov; Professor PhD Shevchik N. P. of Istanbul State University; director of the Department of JSC “Damu” A. A. Adilbekov; chief economist of LLP “Descartes Consulting” in Moscow E. Ugryumova; president of the logistics company “EMEPCON Process Management”; Director of LLP “kazten trading house” A. Tsoi and others.
